The local retailer threw a lift kit, aggressive wheels and tires, and some bumper guards with lights on a new Ascent. It looks...kind of good. Thoughts?

I mean, it’s not bad, but it kind of comes across like a Dodge Journey with the same treatment. The market is so crowded, it’s kind of hard to stand out, so I guess this is one way.
I’ve seen tons of XV/
Crosstreks with this kind of setup.

It does look pretty good. It’s a shame that everything behind the driver/passenger seats are so damn cramped.

I spotted one myself last year . Well, it’s an Outback, but the same concept. I really like it.
I tried to talk my daughter into upgrading hers, but she declined. Technically, it’s in my name, so I could do it anyway, but it probably doesn’t make sense to upgrade something she’s going to take away to college if she doesn’t want it.

That’s a good way to get the price to ascend, that’s for sure. Maybe they have some OEM’s outback, near the forest.

It took me the longest time to realize this wasn’t supposed to be the Escape ST, or whatever. Then you said the Ascent, and I thought, “hmm, is that like a bigger ecosport?”. Then I looked at the picture again, saw dealer installed. So mind went to the ford catalog. Then I finally realized the blue oval on the grill wasn’t a ferd badge. Senior moment or all cars all looking the same? It seriously took me a few minutes to figure it out lol

Back before the great subblog purge, Wes Siler had an article about modding his Outback for going off road:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I see this treatment done to Crosstreks and wonder how they could even move the car with all those accessories weighing down the under powered thing (jokes...kinda). At least with the Ascent it should have enough power to deal with the added weight and different tire size. Would like to see it on a white car for some contrast, overall not bad.

I’ve read it multiple times. One of the takeaways for me was the wheel size. He had to buy smaller wheels to open up options for tires. Our Outback already sports the smaller wheels. I was looking at more capable tires when my daughter started protesting.

It’s not bad looking but if the idea is to be better off paved roads those low accessory lights are just asking for it. Actually, even on paved roads if there is ever any gravel , probably.

I like it. I know it’s a bit bigger than the Passport, but the Ascent has got to compete with it, hard. I’m seeing a lot of the Ascents around me (and, oddly, the Kia Telluride).

As long as they have proper suspension parts to keep the camber right. Saw a C rosstrek with some serious camber changes during acceleration.

The Ascent has to compete more with the Pilot. The new Outback will compete more with Passport, as the adventure, but not like Wrangler level adventure, mid size suv.
I've also noticed a lot of Tellurides lately though.
